Comic-book fans are set to welcome back a familiar face with a modern twist as the Red Sonja reboot prepares to hit theaters in 2024. The character, originally conceived by Robert E. Howard and later popularized through comic books, is getting a contemporary makeover that promises to break away from the male-gaze trope that characterized previous adaptations.
Red Sonja star Matilda Lutz says the reboot’s new direction is ‘very women-empowered.’ Red Sonja is currently in production in Europe, so a 2023 or even 2024 release seems likely.
